Welcome to Abernathy Panama
Welcome to the Abernathy Web Site. Located in the center of the Western Hemisphere, Panama borders on the Caribbean Sea in the north, the Pacific Ocean in the south, Colombia in the east and Costa Rica in the west. Due to the "s" shaped configuration of its land, Panama is the only country in the world where the sun rises in the west and sets in the east.
Two Coasts -- Nowhere else in the world can you see two coasts within a short drive. Pristine beaches are just within 45 minutes of ultra-modern Panama City. Visit dozens of tropical islands off both coasts! In Panama, the Caribbean and Pacific landscapes, beaches, climate and cultures are so unique...it's like visiting several countries in just one trip!Fishing Central America - Quite possibly the most diverse sportfishing area in the world for different species of sport fish available; and Panama is one of the most important and renowned places for fishing in the world. The variety of different fish species as well as their world record size is the main attraction.
Noted for its all-year-round fishing in salt and fresh water, Panama provides better year-round spear fishing than any other country in the world.Having two oceans which are only 50 miles apart is advantageous to all fishermen. You can try fishing for Tarpon, Kingfish, Mackerel, Snook or Red Snapper in the soft blue waters of the San Blas Islands in the Caribbean; or try your luck for Marlin, Sailfish, Wahoo, Red Snapper, Amberjack, Dolphin or Corvina and other species in its Pacific waters. You may also try your luck in the fresh waters of the Chagres River and Gatun Lake. There you will find an abundance of Peacock Bass, Snook, Tarpon, and others. At Pinas - the kingdom of the Black Marlin - many fishing records have been broken.
Whether you are an expert or an amateur, out after the really big fish and a serious weekend of fishing, or just enjoying a day’s fun in the bay, Panama has something to offer you. Abernathy has supplied fishermen from around the world with the best equipment for 50 years.
I am plesantly surprised by the tourist development Pedasí has had in recent years in regards to fishing, diving and water sports and also of the easy access that has developed to make getting here easy. Pedasí is a small paradise located at the tip of the Azuero Peninsula.
I have fished the Frailes area and have experienced the excitement of visiting Isla Iguana to snorkel and to go spear fishing. Arenal Beach is ideal for swimming and Playa Venao is internationally known for its ideal surfing conditions. I don´t think that there are many places where you can enjoy so many places where you can enjoy so many types of water sport all within fifteen minutes of each other. What is incredible about Pedasí is the number of residents who have come to retire here and the new developments that are springing up to make visiting attractive.
Now one can reach Pedasí by air with Aeroperlas at a very reasonable price. Additionally (and very important) is that Abernathy in Pedasí has a large variety of lures, hooks, and everything else that you need for a arine adventure.
The Fishing Tournament
The upcoming Pedasí fishing tournament will take place from July 9 to 11 on Arenal Beach. This tournament get better every year. Last year the catch included big Dorado, Wahoo, Sierra, and Pargo. The nice thing about fishing at Pedasí is that you do not need to travel miles offshore to find a good sport to fish.
Community pride
This year the tournament´s organaizers have given extra special attention to the event and the locals feel that this is a perfect time to showcase the tourism developments that the community has made. I certainly recommended registering and attending the tournament. It is worth bringing the family, and if they don´t want to fish they can surf at Playa Venao or travel to Isla Iguana for the day.
